The first trans-regional Center for Synthetic Genomics at the Universities of Heidelberg, Karlsruhe and Mainz offers scientists an interdisciplinary and cross-location platform for research and exchange.

The cross-location collaboration and the pooling of the complementary expertise of the three research-intensive universities are intended to advance the production of artificial DNA and to exploit its enormous potential for research, medicine and other areas of application. To this end, the participating researchers will also use AI-based analysis and modeling methods to design synthetic DNA sequences to specifically modify the genome of organisms and endow them with new functionalities.

The CZS Center SynGen is based on interdisciplinary collaboration in the fields of life sciences, molecular systems engineering and biomedical research and supports the targeted promotion of young scientists.
