Using synthetic genomics as an example, bachelor's students learn how to prepare and deliver a good talk. Students have one month to familiarize themselves with a given topic and prepare a 15-minute talk that adheres to the principles of good science communication. The talk can be given in German or English. Afterwards, they must also be prepared for a short discussion on their topic. Students receive detailed feedback on the didactic structure of their presentation, as well as on their personality and impact during the presentation.

Over the Christmas break, students prepare a poster on their topic, which they briefly present in a poster session in January. The best poster wins a small prize.

The course is accredited in the University of Mainz Bachelor of Science in Biology & Molecular Biology. Students receive 2 credit points.
