Hands-on science: The SynGen Center at the KIT Open Day

On May 17, the time had finally come: As part of its 200th anniversary celebrations, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) opened its South Campus to the public for the KIT Open Day – and we from the SynGen Center were there!

With bright sunshine and many cheerful visitors, the KIT grounds became a world of discovery for research and innovation. Our booth, too, revolved around a key future topic: synthetic genomics.

What happens when you recreate DNA in the lab? Why do we need synthetic genomes anyway? How does mitosis work, and what does it have to do with flies? We answered these and many other questions on site.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, discussed, and marveled! The KIT Open Day was not only a platform for us to showcase our work - it was also an inspiring day where science and society came together on equal terms.
We are already looking forward to the next time!
