Center SynGen Funded
Research Groups

Wilken Lab
Sam Wilken is a junior group leader at Center SynGen Mainz. The Wilken Lab use programmable, multi-component model systems of biomolecular phase separation to investigate the physical mechanisms of self-organization and transport in soft, disordered materials, inspired by the active, biochemically and mechanically complex environment of the cellular interior.
Research Platforms
A central component of Center SynGen is its two research platforms.

Synthetic DNA Accelerator (SynDNA) Lab
Head: Dr. Konrad Herbst
The mission of the Synthetic DNA Accelerator Lab is to support other research groups by providing the long and complex DNA constructs they require for their work in synthetic genomics. To this end, we centralize and develop infrastructure, workflows, methods, and expertise for the construction and diversification of synthetic DNA sequences.

DNA Unit of Virtual Materials Design (DNA VirtMat Unit)
Head: Dr. Mariana Kozlowska
The DNA VirtMat Unit team investigates the structure and properties of DNA and chromatin using multiscale computational models. This includes in silico genome analysis, synthetic genomics, as well as the design and structuring of DNA through multiscale modeling and AI-based methods.
