History & Locations

The first trans-regional Center for Synthetic Genomics in Germany was officially opened at a ceremony at Heidelberg University on March 4, 2024. In addition to the lead scientists, representatives of the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung and the participating universities also took part. The Center, which is funded by the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung with 12 million euros, is intended to offer scientists a cross-disciplinary and cross-location platform for research and exchange.

Center SynGen is based across three locations: Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, and Mainz.
